Digital Playgrounds

This new series of workshops led by Ruby Sant of Lost Robot (an arts company specialising in large-scale outdoor art/performance) aims to tackle these questions whilst creating a safe space to co-design and play with ideas around digital/physical interfaces, digital storytelling and boundary-pushing outdoor theatre.

Ideal for anyone with an interest in outdoor arts, performance, digital technologies, gaming or with a burning to desire to get your work made and out there, this course is for you.

We are particularly interested in working with people whose voices often feel unheard and as such, are able to offer these workshops at no charge. Funded/supported by Arts Council England.

This series of workshops are provided with automated closed captions and can be provided as text/audio/visual recordings to Assemblers after the session.

Building Digital Worlds

Led by Ben Carlin (of immersive, digital wunderkinds, Megaverse), this course will form a team to consider the visual language and design of such experiences; just how do you turn a story into something that can be explored, felt and played with online?

Together, across four extended sessions, we’ll explore a variety of techniques from simple sketching to using open-source design tools, which, most excitingly, you’ll then use to build the dazzling world of our crime thriller.

The course is open to all levels of experience and is an exceptionally rare opportunity to develop digital design skills for theatre/game-based experiences alongside a true innovator; as such, places are limited.

This series of workshops are provided with automated closed captions and can be provided as text/audio/visual recordings to Assemblers after the session.

Unleash Your Inner Playwright

What theatre really needs right now is… YOU!

Over the course of four sessions, we will begin to explore the slumbering playwright in each of us and start to grasp how we all have a story to tell.

We will look at how to access what makes you unique as a writer as well as learning from each other. We will look at methods of getting started (often the hardest bit) as well as exploring characters, conflict and, vitally, structure.

The wonderful actor and writer, Saikat Ahamed (see below) – a familiar face to Bristol Old Vic, Tobacco Factory and National Theatre audiences – is our course leader, happy to share both his many, many mistakes as well techniques that always seem to help.

This series of five one-hour workshops are provided with automated closed captions and can be provided as text/audio/visual recordings to Assemblers after the session.

Build Your Own Video Game

Want to make your own?

We are hugely excited to welcome the brilliant animator, game developer and imagination plunderer, Jim Bending, to the Egg Assembly.

With a wealth of experience including a recent collaboration with immersive theatrical thought-leaders, Punchdrunk, over the course of five sessions, Jim will invite you to play games, break down the essence of good game-making and introduce you to the various roles in a thriving industry game studio. You’ll also take a look at the indie development scene on your doorstep.

Having done that, we’ll introduce you to cross-platform game engine, Unity, before you begin to create your own mini game experience using simple (and supplied) plug and play assets before sharing your projects with the group.

Game on!

This series of five one-hour workshops are provided with automated closed captions and can be provided as text/audio/visual recordings to Assemblers after the session.
